When you think of Tarot for beginners, does the idea of reading for other people seem strange? After all, what can a beginner Tarot reader contribute through the cards? Plenty! Reading for other people is a great way to practice and improve your new Tarot skills.
There are some things to keep in mind. Not necessarily rules but structure that will make sure your Tarot at the beginner's level is as good as it can be.
All Tarot readers, regardless of level, should always remind their clients of the free will they have over their life. It;s important to emphasize that to your querent. It's their life and their choices period. No one should ever feel oppressed by the hand of fate. Remind yourself that what you read just represents possibilities and your interpretation of that. The rest is up to them.
When you start reading for other people, it'll feel a little clunky at first. As a Tarot beginner, there are A LOT of things that you won't know. Caution whomever you read for that you are new to the cards. It's not to excuse yourself but so that they'll exercise a little patience when you take a little longer. If you're not certain what the meaning of a card is, tell your querent that you need a little more time. Take it from experience, if you just stare at the cards without saying anything, they'll think that something is wrong.
Pick whatever spread you're most familiar with and use it. When learning Tarot for beginners, the time to figure out new Tarot layouts is when you're on your own. If you know the Major Arcana better than the Minor, split the deck and use what you're comfortable with.
Work with your customer and let them help you arrive with some answers. When you're starting out reading Tarot, allow your querent to tell you their question and get their feedback throughout the reading. If you're giving them information that doesn't make sense, you need to clarify or reexamine things. Working with your customer and learning from them will make you a better reader - whether it's Tarot for beginners, intermediate, or advanced levels. Humility is an excellent quality for every Tarot reader to nurture.
There is no competition. Really, it doesn't matter with whom or how you learn reading Tarot cards. What is important is what you give back to your customer, in addition to your Tarot knowledge and empathy for others. Don't get hung up with what other readers are doing except to learn from them, on a positive and negative level. Be the best Tarot reader you can and remember that all of us were once reading at the Tarot for beginners level.
