Tarot Deck

Start Your Relationship with the Perfect Deck

Every Tarot card relationship begins with a Tarot deck. Whether you're new to Tarot cards or an established Tarot reader, finding the right deck can be a little overwhelming. I do think that having a deck that you love AND inspires the best in you is a strong first step to being a great Tarot card reader. So let's get started!

There are many, many different varieties of Tarot decks, from traditional decks like the Rider-Waite, Thoth, and Marseille to themed Tarot decks based in myths, stories, art, fables, spiritual traditions and more. Tarot cards now come in all shapes and sizes and there is enough variety for most people to be able to find a solid match to their taste and style.

What should you be looking for? That really depends on your skill level and aesthetics. Ideally, pick the Tarot deck that you feel a strong connection to. What's this connection stuff? The type of connection I'm referring to is a blend of interest, visual appeal and hopefully, inspiration. A Tarot deck that you have a connection to should excite you when you use it. If you find yourself disliking some of the illustrations, hating the colours or interpretation of themes...maybe you should keep searching for something different.

If you have the opportunity, physically use a Tarot deck before buying. Kick the tires and take it for a test drive (to mix metaphors). This gives you the chance to get a feel for the Tarot cards and the mood of them. This is especially valuable if you're considering a novelty themed or shaped deck. Having a chance to work with the cards helps in evaluating whether a Tarot deck's differences will be charming - or annoying - long term.

I do think it's pleasant to have a few (or more) Tarot decks to read from. That gives you the opportunity to become comfortable with different decks, provides a change in scene (in terms of illustration) and helps you to learn variations in interpretation. These skills are part of what will make your readings go from ordinary to extraordinary.

I currently have a number of Tarot decks that I use on a regular basis. Some are old favourites - if you read the reviews, those will be pretty apparent - and others have been bareley broken in. Some were purchases and others gifts and even the Tarot decks that I've decided were not MY cup of tea may still be yours. My reviews of each Tarot deck I've used will always be added to. Start your journeys below...
